Actively seeking candidates for a Nurse Manager (RN) - ICU role to join our Nursing Leadership Team at the University of Maryland - Baltimore Washington Medical Center


Responsibilities/Tasks

Under limited supervision, the Nurse Manager is a Registered Nurse who is vested with 24-hour accountability for ensuring safe, effective, and appropriate patient care on a designated patient care unit. The Nurse Manager serves as the link between the Hospital's Vision and the unit. The Nurse Manager has direct access to support service resources essential to nursing and patient care, maintains line authority over unit nursing staff, and assigned PRN, SSP, and Float Pool personnel. The Nurse Manager is competent to care for all patients in the age group(s) served by her unit, as defined in the Unit Specific RN Performance Standards.

Principal Responsibilities and Tasks
  • Helps to manage and evaluate the system of care delivery and clinical services on one or more patient care units which helps to meet clinical and service quality objectives alongside the Nurse Manager.
  • Assumes a leadership role in managing the quality of services provided at the unit level.
  • Manages human fiscal resources to meet financial goals and achieve identified outcomes.
  • Develops and implements clinical utilization strategies which s support clinical pathways, discharge planning, and case management.

What You Need to Be Successful:

Licensure
  • Currently licensed as a Registered Nurse in the State of Maryland, or eligible for licensure due to Compact state agreements outlined through the Maryland Board of Nursing, is required.
  • BLS Certification

Education:
  • BSN (Bachelor's Science of Nursing) required.
  • Masters' degree with management coursework preferred. Incumbents are expected to matriculate in an accredited graduate program within one year of their employment
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
  • ICU experience required. Nursing leadership experience is also required.
  • Demonstrated success in a clinical leadership role required the ability to demonstrate knowledge and skills necessary to provide care appropriate to the patient population(s) served.
  • Ability to demonstrate knowledge of the principles of growth and development over the life span and ability to assess data reflective of the patient's requirements relative to his or her population-specific and age-specific needs.
  • Demonstrated highly effective verbal and written communication skills. Demonstrates effectiveness as a group leader and/or participant. Demonstrated ability to collaborate with multiple members of the health care and administrative leadership team.
  • Demonstrated ability to think critically, develop conceptual designs for clinical services, and plan and organize successful projects.
