Position Details:
  • This Nursing leader has oversight of staff, resources, processes, and outcomes for our NSICU, CSU, IMC, and Guardian Program.
  • Reports directly to the CNO and partners closely with a team of Nursing Directors in a nationally ANCC certified Pathway to Excellence organization that prides itself on providing evidence-based care.

General Summary

Under limited supervision, the Director of Nursing is a Registered Nurse who is vested with 24-hour accountability for ensuring safe, effective, and appropriate patient care throughout a clinical division. The director of Nursing serves as a link between the Hospital's Vision and the clinical division, and is a leader who creates a vision of how things can be better; models constructive behaviors, facilitates change, improvement, and problem-solving; coaches employees in performance enhancement; and teaches skills and techniques need to achieving excellence. The director of Nursing has direct access to support service resources essential to nursing and patient care and maintains line authority over divisional nurse managers, Nursing supervisors, and Nursing management support staff, as assigned. The director of Nursing may provide hospital administrative coverage in the absence of administration at a higher level.

The Director, Medical Nursing Services is also responsible for ensuring the integration of mission and promotion of Catholic identity into all aspects of the organization and shall play a key role in shaping the culture of the organization; a culture grounded in UMSJMC's core values of Reverence, Integrity, Compassion, and Excellence and expressed in spirituality reflective of the heritage and faith tradition of which UMSJMC was founded.

Reports to Senior Vice President / Chief Nursing Executive

What You Need to Be Successful:

  • Bachelor's degree in Nursing is required.
  • Enrollment in a Master's in the nursing program is required. Must achieve Master's degree within 3 years of hire.
Certification / Licensure / Registration:
  • State Registered Nurse License (Required)
  • BLS Certification (Preferred)
  • Certification in Specialty Area (Preferred)

Experience and Skills:
  • 3-5 years of nurse management experience, required
  • Experience managing multiple units preferred
  • Required Skills: Strong Verbal Communications Skills, Strong Written Communications Skills, Excellent Interpersonal Skills, Basic Computer Skills, Excellent Organizational Skills, Strong Customer Services Skills, Proven Analytical Skills
